The challenge
In the current investment landscape, there is a significant funding gap for underrepresented founders, including women, LGBTQ+, people of color, and immigrants. These groups often face systemic barriers that limit their access to capital, despite their potential to drive substantial innovation and impact. This disparity not only hinders the growth of diverse entrepreneurial ventures but also restricts the development of solutions that address pressing social and environmental challenges. Bridging this funding gap is crucial to unlocking the full potential of underrepresented founders and fostering a more inclusive and equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Turning challenge into opportunity
Unconventional Ventures (UV) is Europe’s first impact fund dedicated to addressing this funding gap by focusing on underrepresented founders. More specifically, UV invests in scalable environmental or social impact tech startups in the pre-seed and seed stage led by founders identifying as women, people of color, immigrants, and/or LGBTQ+ in Europe.
UV’s investment strategy emphasizes the importance of the convergence of impact and diversity, seeking out founders who have a deep understanding of the problems they aim to solve, often through personal experience or close connections. By investing in these founders, Unconventional Ventures aims to deliver exceptional returns by supporting the development of impactful solutions that contribute to a more inclusive and equitable entrepreneurial landscape.
