The challenge
We are currently facing a global depression epidemic, impacting 280 million people worldwide. In low-income countries, as many as 85% of individuals lack access to necessary treatment. Despite mental health being recognized as a universal human right, significant disparities in treatment accessibility between high- and low-income countries continue to exist.
Turning challenge into opportunity
StrongMinds was founded with the vision of treating depression at scale and ending the global depression epidemic, with a primary focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. Utilizing group interpersonal therapy, StrongMinds emphasizes the role of interpersonal relationships in both the cause and recovery of depression.
To ensure sustainability, StrongMinds trains former clients and local health workers to lead therapy groups in their communities, spreading good mental health widely. Whilst partnering with governments and NGOs to integrate mental health services into livelihood, food security, healthcare, and education programs, expanding its reach and enhancing outcomes for participants.
