The challenge
We are living in a world where societal norms and expectations around masculinity discourage men from talking about their emotions, leading to significant mental health challenges. We are in the midst of a silent mental health crisis, and young men, especially those aged 12 to 24, are disproportionately affected by mental health problems compared to other age groups. Disorders like anxiety and depression, ADHD, and conduct disorders are particularly notable.
Simultaneously, traditional mental health services often miss the mark for this demographic. With masculinity norms emphasizing traits such as toughness, self-reliance, emotional restraint, dominance, and control, men experience unique pressures as adhering to these standards can cause them to suppress vulnerability and avoid seeking help, primarily because they rely on approaches that feel disconnected from the cultural experiences and preferences of young men.
Turning challenge into opportunity
SPOKE recognizes the state of affairs for emerging adult men and revolutionizes mental health support through music, blending CBT and mindfulness with powerful lyricism to create culturally relevant, personalized audio support. Collaborating with top musicians trained by clinical psychologists and neuroscientists, SPOKE creates immersive music episodes that offer the therapeutic benefits of traditional practices in a way that feels relevant and engaging. Bringing together emotion-healing music with neuroscience-backed psychology.
This innovative approach bridges the gap between culture and mental well-being, providing young men with an accessible and culturally attuned way to care for their mental health.
