The challenge
In Sub-Saharan Africa, home to over 1.2 billion people, access to mental healthcare is a significant challenge, with just 1 mental healthcare provider per million individuals. Despite being a fundamental human right, mental health support remains largely inaccessible.
Turning challenge into opportunity
Shamiri Health was born with the mission of democratizing mental healthcare; making it affordable, appropriate, and available in underserved regions worldwide, starting with the Global South and the broader aim of supporting underserved communities worldwide. With a digital offer that provides solutions for individuals, universities, employers, and insurance companies.
Shamiri Health is the fruit of over four years of research and development funding through the non-profit arm Shamiri Institute. At the heart of Shamiri Health is the Rafi app, a platform offering users a secure space to track and share their mental well-being, coupled with personalized interventions based on a community-centric approach, low-touch therapy, and a tiered caregiving model. Shamiri Health offers a wide range of interventions led by trained lay providers, clinical social workers, and expert psychologists.
